Wizards’ Rui Hachimura, Moe Wagner in coronavirus protocol

Washington Wizards’ Rui Hachimura and Moe Wagner are the two players in the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Both players are listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Utah Jazz.

The Wizards canceled Tuesday’s practice as Hachimura and Wagner were placed in the health and safety protocol. Head coach Scott Brooks said both players are “day-to-day” which suggests contact tracing exposure rather than any player testing positive for the virus.

If neither Hachimura nor Wagner are cleared to play, the Wizards could be drastically short-handed against the Jazz. The team is already without center Thomas Bryant for the remainder of the season. Bryant tore his ACL in Saturday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Robin Lopez, who has replaced Bryant in the starting lineup, may be called upon for heavier minutes. The Wizards may have to also turn to seldom used Anthony Gill and Anzejs Pasecņiks. Gill has appeared in four games this season and Pasecņiks just one game. Not ideal for the Washington going against All-NBA center Rudy Gobert.
