Wizards cancel practice after two players enter health and safety protocol

The Washington Wizards canceled Tuesday’s practice as two players have entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol “out of an abundance of caution,” the team announced. The team did not identify the players placed in the protocol.

The Wizards defeated the Phoenix Suns 128-107 Monday night. With the latest development, this marks the fifth straight game a team was affected by COVID protocols the day after a Wizards’ game.

Kevin Durant entered quarantine a day after the Brooklyn Nets played the Wizards on Jan. 3. Then, Seth Curry of the Philadelphia 76ers tested positive for COVID-19 after playing the Wizards (Jan. 6). Jayson Tatum tested positive after the Boston Celtics played the Wizards on Jan. 8, although other Celtics players were already in the health and safety protocol.

Bradley Beal was placed in the protocol due to close contact exposure to Tatum, forcing him to miss Saturday’s game against the Miami Heat. Then, multiple players of the Miami Heat were placed in the protocol a day after playing the Wizards on Jan. 9.

Coincidentally, the Celtics-Heat game on Sunday was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.

The two Wizards players may be subjected to test negative multiple times before they are reinstated to play. If any players indeed test positive, they’ll be required to sit out 10 to 14 days.
