The Washington Capitals scored eight goals in its first two wins of the season against the Buffalo Sabres. Seven different Caps scored goal. Surprisingly, none of them was by Alex Ovechkin.
However, the scoring drought of the nine-time “Rocket” Richard Trophy came to an end in the first period Sunday. With the Caps tied at 1-1 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ovechkin scored his 707th NHL goal to give Washington the lead.
Oveckin’s first goal of the season started with a Tom Wilson hit on John Marino to cause the turnover in the offensive zone. Wilson then found Evgeny Kuznetsov before Ovechkin deposited a rebound past Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith.
