After falling behind 3-1 in the first period to the Washington Capitals, the Pittsburgh Penguins came firing back in the second period to tie the game 4-4. The one goal that helped completely shift the momentum of the game got started by Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith.
With the Capitals on a 5-on-3 power play, DeSmith beat the two-man disadvantage with a beautiful feed across the ice to a rushing Teddy Blueger. The puck elevated past four Capitals players in front of Blueger, who deposited the puck for the shorthanded goal.
The highlight goal cut Pittsburgh’s deficit to 4-3 before they ultimately tied the game before the second intermission.
Blueger gets the goal. However, DeSmith gets a large portion of the credit with his heads-up pass. The glove stop, drop and flip of the puck, all were part of what may be the greatest goalie assist many have ever seen.
