Capitals fined $100k for violating COVID-19 protocols

The NHL fined the Washington Capitals $100,000 for violating the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Details were not provided, but the league noted players were involved in social interactions while not wearing masks.

“The National Hockey League announced today that it has fined the Washington Capitals $100,000 for Player violations of the League’s COVID-19 Protocols which involved social interactions among team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face coverings,” the league said in a statement.

The NHL season began earlier this month, but already several teams have had their facilities shut down, games postponed and rescheduled due to the league’s coronavirus protocols.

The Capitals are 2-0-2 with all four games being played on the road. Washington won back-to-back games at the Buffalo Sabres to start the season. They completed a back-to-back set at Pittsburgh Tuesday night.

The Capitals are scheduled for their home opener Friday as part of another back-to-back set with the Sabres.
