The Big East announced the men’s basketball game between Georgetown and Xavier on Jan. 26 has been postponed amid COVID-19 related issues within the Hoyas program.
Postponements and cancellations have been the norm for college basketball this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Georgetown has now had four straight games postponed by the league as the team deals with the troubling virus.
The postponement against Xavier joins Hoyas games against DePaul (Jan. 13), at Providence (Jan. 16) and at Marquette (Jan. 20).
Georgetown head coach Patrick Ewing contracted the virus in May. He spent five days in hospital due to complications.
“I had the chills, I had high temperature, shortness of breath,” Ewing described in June of his experience with COVID-19. “Of course, you feel crappy, you don’t feel yourself. But I’m just happy that I’m better, and I say thank you to all the people at Georgetown University Hospital [who] took care of me.”
Georgetown’s next scheduled game is Jan. 30 against Providence.
