The Washington Football Team closed its facility after a series of COVID-19 cases among coaches and staff members, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The positive cases stem from a small get-together outside the facility at the conclusion of their season.
Washington released a statement on the situation.
Head coach Ron Rivera is “fine” but continuing to test, according to Matthew Paras of the Washington Times.
Rivera preached extra caution throughout the season in large due to his bout with cancer. Washington had the fewest cases of COVID-19 during the 2020 season with two. Tight end Logan Thomas tested positive at the start of training camp. Defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis tested positive in November while on injured reserve.
Washington’s season ended on Jan. 9 in a wild card playoff game loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
