In his first game in 11 days, Alex Ovechkin came through in the clutch for the Washington Capitals with a game-winning goal in overtime. Ovechkin’s heroics lifted the Capitals to a 4-3 OT win over the Boston Bruins.
The goal was Ovechkin’s 708th career goal tying him with Mike Gartner for seventh-most in NHL history.
The Capitals blew a 3-0 lead. Boston completed its rally with a goal by Charlie McAvoy with 58 seconds remaining in regulation. However, Ovechkin pulled Washington through just 28 seconds into overtime.
Ovechkin had missed the previous four games while he was in COVID protocols. He along with defenseman Dmitry Orlov was cleared to return Saturday. While Orlov sat out the game, Ovechkin played, and delivered when his team needed him most.
With the win, the Capitals improve to 6-0-3 on the season. They’re yet to lose a game in regulation.
