Yes, Nationals fans “Baby Shark” could be back in 2021. That’s because the Washingto Nationals are bringing back Gerardo Parra for a non-roster invite to Spring Training, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.
Parra spent one season with the Nationals in 2019. But, he became etched forever in Nationals folklore when he turned to the “Baby Shark” song as his walk-up music in midst of a hitting slump in June of that year.
Washington was struggling and was well below .500 in May. So was Parra. However, he got going with his switch to the iconic children’s song, and so did the Nationals. “Baby Shark” captivated their fans and the craze became infectious en route to the club’s magical run to the World Series title.
Parra wasn’t part of the Nationals’ plan in 2020. Thus, he signed with the the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball. Now, he returns to the team he will be most synonymous with. Through 11 years in the Majors, Parra is a .276 career hitter with 1,312 hits. He’s also played for Arizona, Milwaukee, Baltimore, Colorado and San Francisco
Parra hit .250/.300/.447 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 204 plate appearances last time around with the Nationals in 2019. At the age of 33, he will get the opportunity to in Spring Training to hatch on to the Nationals for one more run.
