The Washington Football Team has paused its cheerleading program and it will be re-branded, according to Darren Haynes of WUSA-9. Additionally, cheerleading director Jamilla Keene has been removed from her position. Cheerleaders were informed of Keene’s removal on Monday.
Washington has hired a consultant to aid with the re-band of the cheerleaders.
Haynes adds the cheerleadeing re-branding is not a direct result of the NFL’s investigation into the team stemming from a July Washington Post report of sexual harassment and misconduct allegations from more than a dozen female employees. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated last week attorney Beth Wilkinson is nearing completion of the independent investigation.
The Washington Post also later reported misconduct allegations involving Washington cheerleaders, including verbal abuse from owner Dan Snyder.
Three years ago, a Washington Football Team executive, Dennis Greene, resigned following the fallout surrounding a 2013 photo shoot with the team cheerleading program. Cheerleaders were asked to pose topless in front of male sponsors and suite holders and act as escorts.
