The Washington Football Team signed quarterback Taylor Heinicke to a contract extension, but the thought is Washington is still looking for a suitable starting signal-caller. The team is combing the landscape for options, and it appears they’ve targeted Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com, Washington has called the Raiders inquiring about a potential trade for Carr. The Raiders, however, have not made Carr available.
This goes along with a report last week from the Las Vegas Review-Journal noting Washington has interest in Carr. Carr’s brother and former NFL QB David Carr recently said on NFL Network, “teams have called and have offered and have all been told no.”
It’s clear Washington is trying to upgrade its QB situation. Last season they started four different quarterbacks in 17 games. When the season ended two — Alex Smith (bone bruise) and Kyle Allen (ankle) — were injured and another, Dwayne Haskins, was no longer on the team.
Washington reportedly offered the Detroit Lions two draft picks and a defensive starter for Matthew Stafford. But they ultimately lost out to the Los Angeles Rams. With a less-than-stellar list of free agents at the position, Washington is calling around the league gauging trade interest on possible available quarterbacks.
