Washington ‘monitoring’ Russell Wilson situation with Seahawks

Russell Wilson has opened Pandora’s box with his candid assessment of his situation with the Seattle Seahawks. While appearing on a conference call, Wilson essentially threw his offensive line under the bus by saying he was “frustrated at getting hit too much.”

Wilson’s grievances matched rumors he was unhappy with the Seahawks. In return, Seattle’s front office is not happy with him blowing smoke.

Wilson is one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. He has one Super Bowl title in two appearances. So, it’s shocking to hear grumbles of cracks in his relationship with Seattle.

Wilson added he was unsure if the Seahawks have made him available on the trade market during an interview on The Dan Patrick Show. He also stated he would like more say in the team’s roster makeup, citing the voice Tom Brady has with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Certainly, his words are strong enough to raise eyebrows.

It’s hard to imagine Wilson playing for another franchise. Yet, teams are keeping a close eye on his situation in Seattle. One of those teams include the Washington Football Team, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports

“They’re certainly going to be evaluating any quarterback who’s available. Like this Russell Wilson chatter is not lost on them I can assure you that. And it’s more than chatter, there’s a thing brewing there. Not as Deshaun Watson levels yet, it may be amendable, there may be some way to keep that thing together but people are monitoring it and I can tell you Washington is doing that,” La Canfora said while appearing on 106.7 the Fan’s BMitch & Finlay Show.

Wilson is still in the prime of his career at the age of 32. He and the Seahawks haven’t been to a Super Bowl since the 2014 season. After seeing Brady help build the Buccaneers into a Super Bowl champion in one season, Wilson is like other star quarterbacks around the league evaluating their situations and future.

Meanwhile, Washington is kicking the tires on just about every opportunity to upgrade at quarterback. They were in on the Matthew Stafford sweepstakes. The team also has inquired about Sam Darnold of the New York Jets and Derek Carr of the Las Vegas Raiders. So, it’s only natural they’d peak in on Wilson.

Washington has a vaunted defense led by their defensive line. As the reigning NFC East champions, Washington wants a long-term answer at quarterback to lead the team further for years to come. Wilson certainly fits the build. But, it’s a pipe dream until his situation with Seattle gets murkier.
