Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal scored a game-high 46 points against the Boston Celtics. However, it was not enough for the Wizards to get the win. A late-game meltdown with gaffes on each of the final two offensive possessions led to a 111-110 Washington loss.
The loss extended Beal’s historic losing streak. Beal has now been on the losing end of 11 straight games when he scores 40 or more points, according to ESPN. It’s the longest such streak in NBA history, a record he set earlier this season.
To add to the dreadful streak, Bradley Beal now has the worst record of any player with at least 10 40-point games in NBA history, according to ESPN.
The woeful milestones are more of an indictment on the Wizards and their recent direction than Beal. He has emerged as one of the league’s most lethal scorers. Currently, he leads the league with 35.7 points per game. But with the team’s struggles of late, the margin of error is thin.
Sunday against the Celtics, Beal was magnificent for much of the first 47 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, back-to-back double teams rattled Beal into mistakes, ultimately costing the Wizards a win.
Still, head coach Scott Brooks and the Wizards will take a 40-point barrage from Beal every night. But, it shows that dropping buckets doesn’t necessarily equate to victory.
