Maryland women pull away late from Nebraska to advance in Big Ten Tournament

The top seed in the Women’s Big Ten Conference Tournament, Maryland got all they could handle from 8-seed Nebraska. However, sophomore guard Ashley Owusu put the Terrapins on her back.

Owusu scored 13 of her team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Maryland to a 83-73 win to advance to the semifinals.

Nebraska led in a tight game 68-67 midway through the fourth. That’s when the Terrapins picked up the intensity, outscoring the Cornhuskers 15-5 in the final 5:47 of the game. Owusu scored 11 straight during the impressive closeout.

Three other Terrapins finished in double figures. Diamond Miller and Chloe Bibby each had 18 points. Mimi Collins added 17 points. Sam Haiby led Nebraska and all scorers with 24 points.

Maryland (22-2) is seeking its second straight Big Ten tournament title and fifth since joining the conference in 2014. They’ll face the winner of Michigan-Northwestern in Friday’s semifinals.
