The Washington Football Team has lost another key defensive player to free agency, as linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis has agreed to a two-year deal with the Houston Texans, according to Jeremy Folwer of ESPN. The deal is worth up to $8 million.
Kevin Pierre-Louis played last season in Washington on a one-year deal. He came over from the Chicago Bears, looking for an increased role in Jack Del Rio’s defense. Pierre-Louis appeared in 13 games with a career-high 11 starts. He played in 48% of Washington’s defensive snaps. He had 56 tackles with a sack and forced fumble.
Washington was already looking to revamp their linebacker positions. Yet, Pierre-Louis appeared to be someone the team wanted to factor into their plans. Last week, Washington head coach Ron Rivera expressed he’d love to get Pierre-Louis back.
“I’d love to get a guy with the skillset of Kevin Pierre-Louis, whether it’s Kevin or someone else,” Rivera said per, JP Finlay of NBC Sports. “I’d love to have Kevin back. He did a lot of good for us, played well, did a lot of good things, got a lot better down the line.”
Now, Pierre-Louis is a Houston Texan, and Washington adds to their list of position needs. They also lost cornerback Ronald Darby, who agreed to a three-year deal with the Denver Broncos.
