Nick Sundberg announced on Twitter Washington head coach Ron Rivera informed him, the team will not be re-signing the longtime long snapper, ending his stay with Washington after 11 seasons.
“Unfortunately Coach informed me that I’m not in the plans moving forward,” Sundberg wrote. “I understand this is a business but I’m still sad to close this long chapter with the Washington Football Team. I look forward to the next opportunity in my career, wherever that may be. See you on Sundays.”
Nick Sundberg had a training camp stint with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie in 2009. He also spent time that year on the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens. But, Washington is the only team he has ever played for in his career.
He appeared in 152 games with Washington. He was cemented as part of Washington’s special teams alongside kicker Dustin Hopkins and punter Tress Way.
Washington thanked Sundberg for his time with the franchise.
Sundberg was Washington’s Man of the Year nominee in both 2017 and 2019 for his remarkable charity work. He founded the Loads of Love program, which designed to install washers and dryers in homeless shelters to help increase school attendance for families with children.
