Fabian Moreau signing one-year deal with Falcons

Fabian Moreau is moving on, leaving the Washington Football Team for Atlanta. The cornerback is joining the Falcons on a one-year deal after four seasons in Washington, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Fabian Moreau was a third-round draft pick of Washington in 2017 out of UCLA. He appeared in 60 games during his time in Washington, registering six interceptions. In 2020, he allowed eight catches on 13 targets while having two interceptions, according to Pro Football Focus.

Moreau seemed more comfortable lining up on the outside rather than in the slot. However, with the additions of Kendall Fuller and Ronald Darby in 2020, Moreau was forced to play more in the slot than he preferred. His snap counts dropped tremendously from previous years, as he played just 15% of Washington’s defensive snaps.

Washington considered bringing him back. However, now he joins former popular Washington executive Kyle Smith in Atlanta. The 26-year old Moreau becomes the second cornerback to exit in this year’s free agency. Darby inked a three-year deal with the Denver Broncos last week.

Washington is looking to offset the losses by signing William Jackson III formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals to a three-year deal. Washington also re-signed Danny Johnson for depth although he primarily played special teams last season. Jimmy Moreland also remains under contract with the team.
