With no Bradley Beal by his side, Russell Westbrook had no problems putting his imprint in the Washington Wizards 132-124 win over the Indiana Pacers. Westbrook did so by putting up video game-type numbers, recording his 16th triple-double of the season with 35 points, 21 assists and 14 rebounds.
It was just the third 30-point, 20-assist triple-double in NBA history. In fact, it was the first-ever 35/20/10 game in league history.
In the process, Westbrook surpassed Darrell Walker for most triple-doubles in Washington Wizards franchise history. He did so in just 38 games. In comparison, it took Walker 251 games to record 15 triple-doubles in a Washington uniform.
Westbrook’s teammates celebrated by dousing him with water as he entered the locker room.
The Wizards have had their share of point guards greats, such as John Wall, Gilbert Arenas, Rod Strickland and Kevin Porter. But none were able to fill the stat sheet in points, assists and rebounds at the same rate as Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook only trails Oscar Robertson for most triple-doubles in NBA history with 162. Now, he has eclipsed the Wizards’ franchise mark in less than one season. Keep in mind stands a great chance of widening the gap between he and Walker as he has 2.5 years remaining under contract following his trade from the Houston Rockets.
