Mets-Nationals Opening Day game postponed due to COVID-19 issues

Thursday’s Opening Day game between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues surrounding the Nationals, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo announced on Wednesday six members of the team were being quarantine due to a positive test of a player. The positive test was a result of testing on Monday while the team was in West Palm Beach, Florida. Initially five people, including one staff member were deemed close contact.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan adds that there are concerns of a least one additional positive test for the Nationals. Further contract tracing is being administered to determine how many more members of the club are affected.

No members of the Mets have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.
