Watch: Dmitry Orlov goes top shelf for unassisted OT goal

Dmitry Orlov played hero to lift the Washington Capitals past the New Jersey Devils 2-1 with an incredible unassisted game-winner with 21.7 seconds remaining in overtime.

Orlov took the rebound off a missed shot from Devils’ Travis Zajac. He then proceeded to skate down the side the ice before ripping the pick top shelf past Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood to light the lap.

Here’s a closer look at the defenseman’s laser:

An astonished Orlov was reduced to just shrugging his shoulder in celebration.

Thanks to their speedy defensman, the Washington Capitals improved to 13-0-4 in one-goal games this season. They are the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss in one-goal games.

Fellow defenseman John Carlson had the Capitals first goal, coming in the second. Devils forward Michael McLeod tied the game for New Jersey at the 12:53 mark of the second.

Meanwhile, Capitals goaltender Vitek Vanecek stopped 22 of 23 shots on goal. Blackwood had 38 saves in a losing effort.

The win snaps a two-game snide for the Capitals, who improve to 24-9-4 on the season. They’re now in sole possession of first place in the East division with a two-point lead over the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.
