One programās lost is anotherās gain. Former Georgetown center Qudus Wahab is transferring down the road to Maryland. Wahab announced his commitment on Instagram Saturday.
The 6-foot-11 Wahab averaged 12.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 26 games this season for the Hoyas. He also shot 59.1% from the field.
Wahab had 20 points and 12 rebounds in Georgetownās first round loss to Colorado in the NCAA Tournament last month. He entered the transfer portal shortly after the Hoyas tourney loss.
The decision to transfer is perplexing for the Nigeria native and Flint Hill star. He appeared to develop quite nicely under the tutelage of head coach and Georgetown legend Patrick Ewing. Wahab chose Maryland over West Virginia, Tennessee, Miami, VCU and NC State.
Despite the loss of Wahab, the Hoyas appear in good shape moving forward. Fresh off its Big East Tournament title, Georgetown has a top-10 recruiting class coming in next season led by Amir Mohammad. Additionally, Big East tournament MOP Dante Harris is expected to return for his sophomore season.
Meanwhile, Maryland finally lands the viable big man the team has been yearning quite sometime.
The Terps are reportedly finalizing a contract extension with head coach Mark Turgeon. Provided Aaron Wiggins returns to College Park next season, the Terrapins could be a seasoned and formidable team in the Big Ten.
