Despite being let go by them in January, popular reporter Dan Kolko will be part of MASN’s coverage of the Washington Nationals this season after all. Kolko made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday hours before Washington is set to finally open their season against the Atlanta Braves.
Kolko was part of MASN’s cuts at the beginning of the year, ending his tenure the network part owned by the Nationals and Baltimore Orioles, but controlled by the Orioles. He moved to an in-game reporter in 2014 after starting out as a blogger with MASN.
His departure was met with a large outcry of disapproving fans. Fortunately, he landed a spot with the Nationals in March. With the team, Kolko is set to “bounce around” on a number of different roles and networks. That has included him hosting “Nats Insider” a weekly show that has appeared on 106.7 the Fan.
Now, Kolko will man the mic before, during and after the Nationals game on MASN as if he never left.
The Nationals will finally get the chance to start the 2021 season Tuesday against the Braves. Washington had its three-game opening series with the New York Mets postponed after four Nationals players tested positive for COVID-19 and another seven being deemed close contacts. Monday’s game against the Braves was also postponed.
