Mystics ‘Rebel Edition’ jerseys feature 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote

To celebrate their 25th season, the WNBA officially unveiled new uniforms for each of their 12 franchises, including the Washington Mystics. Designed by Nike, the league’s uniform partner since 2018, the league introduced three uniforms for each team — Heroine Edition (home), Explorer (away) uniforms and a third alternate “Rebel Edition.”

The Mystics Rebel Edition features script of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote, ratified in 1920. The jerseys are pink, white and blue. The pink is the same shade synonymous with political protests, such as the 2017 Women’s March, which inspired the Rebel uniforms.

“RISE” is showcased on the front panel of the jerseys which is meant to empower women “to rise up for what they believe in,” Nike’s VP of women’s apparel design Tania Flynn said. The middle white strip has the script of the 19th Amendment.

Early glimpses of the new Rebel jersey leaked last month. However, there wasn’t many details of the new alternates. The connection of the Women’s March and 19th Amendment makes the uniform one of the more attractive looks in the league’s Rebel collection.
