Washington Wizards rookie Deni Avdija is done for the remainder of the season with a hairline fracture in his right ankle, according Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. No surgery is expected to be needed. However, Avdija will have an MRI Thursday to see if there is any ligament damage.
Avdija exited Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors in a wheelchair after landing awkwardly on his leg. The 20-year old grabbed his right ankle immediately after falling to the floor. Wizards teammate Jordan Bell placed a practice jersey over Avdija’s ankle.
Avdija becomes the second starter in the Wizards frontcourt to be lost for the season. Center Thomas Bryant tore his ACL in January.
In 54 games this season, Avdija averaged 6.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 23.2 minutes per game. Washington selected him ninth overall in November’s NBA Draft out of the Israeli League.
