Adam Schefter of ESPN dropped a huge bombshell on the heels of Thursday’s NFL Draft, as Aaron Rodgers does not want to return to the Green Bay Packers next season.
The failing relationship between the Rodgers and the Packers has come to a head. The signs of dissension brewed when Green Bay traded up to draft former Utah State QB Jordan Love in the first round of last year’s draft.
Going to back-to-back NFC Championship games hasn’t fix the issues. It’s also been reported members of the Packers, including head coach Matt LaFluer have flown out to California to try to sway Rodgers’ mind. The Packers have also offered a contract extension but their efforts have been to no avail.
Rodgers has three years remaining under contract, so realistically a trade would be the best way of him leaving Green Bay. Destinations such as Washington, New Orleans and New England may make a lot sense and be a great fit for Aaron Rodgers. However, none are among the preferred landing spots for the reigning NFL MVP.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Rodgers, a California native, prefers to be on the west coast with the San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos are on his wish list.
Schefter reported the 49ers called the Packers about Rodgers, but the Packers remain steadfast to hang on to Rodgers.
Interesting enough the 49ers hold the third overall pick in this year’s draft and are expected to draft a quarterback with that pick. The Broncos traded for Teddy Bridgewater Wednesday. Thus, time could be running out with teams on his wish list.
If Rodgers ultimately moves on from Green Bay, will teams not on his wish list remain in the picture?
