Thursday’s play-in game for the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs turned into a blowout. The Washington Wizards opened up a 30-point lead in the third quarter over the Indiana Pacers. The Wizards dynamic backcourt paired up to provide an epic photo to place an exclamation point on the night.
Russell Westbrook connected with a cutting Bradley Beal on his way to an emphatic dunk.
Through all the jubilation inside the Wizards’ Capital One Arena, TV cameras caught an amazing image of a hyped Westbrook raising his hands as Beal hung on the rim in the background.
Washington fought through injuries, a team COVID-19 outbreak and a 17-32 record to start the season to make the playoffs. That’s despite losing Tuesday’s 7th seed play-in game to the Boston Celtics behind a 50-point performance from Jayson Tatum.
The Pacers rode a 144-117 win over the Charlotte Hornets in the 9-10 seed play-in game. But, they proved to be no match for Westbrook and the Wizards, who are on their way to beating the Pacers in all four meetings this season.
The image of Westbrook and Beal is surely to be etched in the Wizards’ postseason legend.
