Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller has been transported to the hospital after taking a big hit from Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov in the second period.
As Miller was skating in the open ice, Orlov lounged forward with his hands out. It appeared he made contact with Miller’s shoulder knocking him off his feet. As he falls, it appears Miller hits his head on the ice.
Whistles were blown. Miller was obviously dazed. He was helped off the ice to the locker room by trainers.
Referees initially assessed a major on Orlov but rescinded the major to a double minor for roughing after an official review.
With one of their players down, the Bruins capitalized on the power play. Brad Marchand beat Ilya Samsonov on the power play to give Boston the 1-0 lead.
