A fan ran onto the court in Washington during the third quarter of Monday’s Game 4 between the Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers. Capital One Arena security tackled the fan near the baseline next to the 76ers’ bench.
This is yet the latest incident involving fans during the NBA playoffs. Last week during Game 2, a 76ers fan in Philadelphia threw popcorn on an injured Russell Westbrook as he walked to the locker room.
The same night, a New York Knicks fan spit on Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young during their Game 2 playoff game at Madison Square Garden. Also, an Utah Jazz fan harassed the parents of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant in Utah with racist comments.
In all three incidents the culprits were banned for life at the respective home arenas.
This latest incident in Washington comes a night after a Boston Celtics fan was arrested and arraigned after throwing a water bottle at Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving.
The NBA is surely excited to have fans back in arenas with team’s and their local officials increasing capacity. However, the fan experience has been tainted a great deal by the numerous ugly incidents in the past week.
