Major League Baseball has extended Starlin Castro’s administrative leave for an additional seven days through July 29. Castro was initially placed on leave on July 16 as the league investigates domestic violence allegations against the Washington Nationals infielder.
Earlier this week, Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said he doesn’t expect Castro to be back with the team this season. Rizzo also shouldered the blame for not vetting Castro enough before signing him to a two-year deal in 2020.
Last week, manager Dave Martinez was very adamant about the seriousness of the allegations. Martinez said domestic violence won’t be tolerated by the club.
Rizzo echoed those sentiments when he spoke to the players about Castro.
Castro appeared in 87 games this season with Washington. He hit .283/.333/.375 with three home runs and 38 RBIs.
