Spencer Dinwiddie is headed to the Washington Wizards on a three-year, $62 million deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Wizards and Brooklyn Nets agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that will actually include five teams officially.
Dinwiddie’s signing was reported on the first day of the NBA free agency. But no details of the deal were known, as both the Wizards and Nets worked on a amicable sign-and-trade.
The Wizards are looping Dinwiddie’s deal into the Russell Westbrook trade to the Los Angeles Lakers that already included the Indiana Pacers.
To complete the deal, Washington sent forward Chandler Hutchinson with his $4 million salary and a 2022 second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs. That allows the Wizards to avoid the luxury tax.
The Nets receive a 2024 second rounder and 2025 second-round pick swap from the Wizards via the Golden State Warriors. Brooklyn also gains an $11.5 million trade exception in the deal.
Officially, this will be in addition to the Wizards sending Westbrook to the Lakers. Washington nets Dinwiddie from the Nets, guard Aaron Holiday and the draft rights of Isaiah Todd from the Pacers, guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and forwards Montrezl Harrell and Kyle Kuzma from the Lakers.
