Maryland got deeper at wide receiver, as four-star wide out Shaleak Knotts committed to the Terrapins on Sunday. The Monroe, NC receiver becomes the highest-rated player in Maryland’s 2022 recruiting class.
Shaleak Knotts picked Maryland over North Carolina and Tennessee. He also had offers from George, Penn State and Texas. At 6-foot-1, 184 pounds, Knotts is rated as the No. 94 player overall by 247Sports. He is 13th among the nation’s receivers for 2022.
As a sophomore in 2019, Knotts broke out for Monroe High School. He had 59 catches for 1,006 yards and 14 touchdowns in 12 games, according to Max Preps. Last year in an COVID-19 condensed schedule, he had 34 catches for 607 yards and seven touchdowns in nine games.
Maryland has stacked up wide receivers in recent years, fresh off the success of Stefon Diggs. Last year, the Terps landed five-star Rakim Jarrett over LSU. This season, the receivers may be the featured unit on Mike Locksley’s team with Jarrett, senior Dontay Demus Jr., and junior Jeshaun Jones.
Maryland’s recruiting took a year off at wide receiver in 2021. But, Knotts along with New Jersey three-star Amari Clark is a start of reloading for the future at pass catchers.
