Washington Football Team wide receiver Curtis Samuel did not practice Wednesday after suffering a setback with his groin injury during individual drills. Samuel pulled up while running a route.
He immediately took off his helmet and headed to the side after conversing with trainers.
Samuel has been hampered with a groin injury since OTAs. He missed most of training camp and did not play in any of Washington’s three preseason games.
Head coach Ron Rivera expressed confidence on Monday that Samuel would be ready for Week 1. However, Wednesday’s setback surely puts his status in jeopardy for Sunday’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“If Curtis plays, great, and if he doesn’t, great, because we have a lot of confidence in the other guys,” Rivera after Wednesday’s practice per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.
If Samuel is unable to play, Washington will lean heavy on Adam Humphries and rookie Dyami Brown to pair opposite of top receiver Terry McLaurin.
