Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick headed to the locker room with a hip injury after taking a big hit. He exited the game in the second quarter and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Los Angeles Charger outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu beat Washington left tackle Charles Leno Jr. inside, leading him to a clear hit on Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick laid on the field in obvious pain before being attended by trainers. He was assisted to the locker room for further evaluation.
Taylor Heinicke replaced Fitzpatrick. Third quarterback Kyle Allen is inactive for the game.
Fitzpatrick signed a one-year, $10 million deal in April to be Washington’s starting quarterback. Now, the offense is in the hands of Heinicke, who won over fans with his heroic performance in their wild card playoff loss against Tampa Bay.
