Dontay Demus yells ‘I’m coming back’ while being carted off field after horrific leg injury

Undefeated Maryland entered Friday’s Big Ten showdown against No. 5 Iowa with high hopes and aspirations of letting the conference and the nation know they have arrived. However the complexion of the game and possibly their season changed in a blink of an eye.

Terrapins’ top wide receiver Dontay Demus was carted off the field after an apparent leg injury.

Demus took a kickoff early in the second quarter following an Iowa touchdown. However, his leg hyperextended in an awkward angle as he was being tackled.

He fumbled the football on his way down and Iowa recovered the football in Maryland’s territory.

As the cart was driving off the field, Demus courageously yelled to his teammates, “I’m coming back!”

The scene certainly was fiery, considering how gruesome the injury looked. There hasn’t been an official diagnosis of his injury.

Unfortunately, his words did not spark his team for long. Maryland was outscored 31-0 in the second quarter alone, as the Terrapins committed four turnovers in the quarter. That included three interceptions by quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa.

Maryland faced an uphill battle against the fifth-ranked team in the nation to begin with. But, Demus going down seemingly zapped the life out of the Terrapins.

Hopefully, whatever the status of his injury, Demus attacks his recovery with the determination of his words, “I’m coming back!”
