The injury bug continues to bite the Maryland Terrapins, particularly at wide receiver. Senior wideout Jeshaun Jones was carted off the field Saturday against the Ohio State Buckeyes after the second play of the game with an apparent knee injury.
There has been no official word on the diagnosis of the injury. However, Jones notably tore his ACL in the preseason of his sophomore year which forced him to miss the 2019 season entirely.
Jones caught a short pass for six yards. But, it appeared he pulled up before getting tackled along the Ohio State sideline. He stayed down on the field for several minutes before a cart was brought on the field for him.
This season, Jones appeared to be back in a groove. He had 17 catches for 218 yards coming into Saturday’s contest.
Jones’ injury occurs a week after Maryland lost its top wide receiver Dontay Demus for the season to a knee injury. Demus was injured on a kickoff in the second quarter against Iowa and was carted off the field. He underwent successful surgery this week in Alabama.
Jones was part of Maryland’s dynamic trio at wide receiver that included Demus and sophomore breakout Rakim Jarrett. Maryland’s offense showcased the three in their first four games, all wins.
Unfortunately after their 4-0 start, they’ve now lost two to apparent long-term injuries in back-to-back games. Playing Big Ten giant Ohio State at “The Horseshoe” is already a tough hill to climb, being without Demus and Jones will make the challenge steeper.
