Could Curtis Samuel be shut down again with groin injury?

This offseason the Washington Football Team paid wide receiver Curtis Samuel a lot of money in free agency to play opposite of Terry McLaurin. Three years and $34.5 million to be exact. However, Samuel hasn’t played much thanks to a lingering groin injury.

Samuel missed the majority of training camp. He didn’t play in any preseason games. Then, just ahead of the season opener he suffered a setback, tweaking the groin. He was placed on injured reserve

Samuel missed the first three games, but returned in time for Week 4. However, the groin injury continued to bother him. Last week against the New Orleans Saints he played a meager five snaps before leaving the game.

That set off him not practicing all this week. Now, Washington has ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

When asked about possibly shutting Samuel down again, Washington head coach Ron Rivera said they’ll know more based on how Samuel feels next Monday.

Given what’s transpired so far, it’s very plausible that Samuel will go back on injured reserve. Now the question hovering over the situation is will he require surgery?

Maybe he doesn’t. But, groin injuries typically take an extended time to heal. Samuel clearly isn’t ready to play up to his full speed. Washington will have played six games after Sunday’s contest against the Chiefs. Samuel will have played a total of 30 snaps with four catches and 19 yards.
