Friday’s Game 1 of the American League Championship Series provided one of the more hilarious moments. Boston Red Sox slugger Kike Hernandez hit a 448-foot bomb with a mic on Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker.
Baker was doing an in-game interview during the FOX broadcast with Joe Buck and John Smoltz. As soon as the bat made contact with the ball, Baker knew the result wasn’t good for his team.
The blast tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. Usually the in-game interviews are pointless. Nothing is learned in the process. But Baker’s reaction was pure gold and provided a viral gem.
At 72 years of age, Baker has been around the game of baseball for decades. His natural calmness allowed him not to dramatically overreact.
