Washington Football Team quarterback is “still weeks away” from returning to the field, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Fitzpatrick suffered a hip subluxation in Week 1.
The timeframe for his return was at least six weeks. However as Washington is set to face the Green Bay Packers in Week 7, Fitzpatrick is still using crutches around the team’s facility.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera mentioned this week Fitzpatrick had an MRI pending. But it’s becoming evidently obvious his return will not come until at least after the Week 9 bye.
The team has maintained the 38-year old QB will return this season. Yet, his recovery is going slower than expected. Taylor Heinicke will remain Washington’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Heinicke will make his sixth straight start of the season Sunday against the Packers. He has appeared in every game and taken every snap since Fitzpatrick was injured in the first half of the season’s opener.
Kyle Allen remains the backup quarterback. Washington also has Kyle Shurmur, the son of Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, on the practice squad.
