The Washington Football Team is looking to offload one of its worse contracts ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. According to Ben Standig of The Athletic, Washington has let teams around the league know safety Landon Collins is available for trade.
Collins has three years remaining after this season on his six-year, $84 million contract he signed in 2019. Washington is open to adding money into a potential trade. Still moving Collins is unlikely.
After a disappointing 2019 season, Collins looked for a refresh under head coach Ron Rivera in 2020. However, his season was cut short due to a torn Achilles in Week 7.
He worked his way back on the field before the start of this season in a matter of months. Yet, he has struggled in coverage while in the secondary. Out of necessity, Washington has used Collins in a hybrid safety and linebacker role.
Sunday against the Denver Broncos, Collins had one of his best games of the season with eight tackles, including two for losses, and a sack.
With a record of 2-6 following four straight losses, it appears Washington is looking to be sellers before the trade deadline. Finding a team to take on Collins would be a huge positive for Washington, who appear to be looking towards the future.
