In today’s round-up: WWE Raw goes off script live on TV. Meanwhile, it appears all of Chicago wants the Bears to get rid of head coach Matt Nagy. The New Orleans Saints sign utility man Taysom Hill to a new breakthrough contract.
1. WWE: Fan attacks wrestler Seth Rollins in Brooklyn
A 24-year fan charged and attack WWE superstar Seth Rollins during Raw Monday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The start of the attack was shown during the live broadcast before cutting to commercial. WWE referees and security intervene before apprehending the fan.
The WWE released a statement following the troubling incident.
Rollins, who is a heel, is supposed to draw heat from fans. That’s the objective of his character. But this is going a bit too far. The fan was arrested.
2. Bears players, Bulls fans and all of Chicago want Bears head coach Matt Nagy fired
Sunday Chicago Bears fans chanted at Soldier Field to fire Matt Nagy. A day later, frustrated Bulls fans chanted the same Monday night inside the United Center.
But most of all, it appears his own players are fed up with him. According to a recent report by Jordan Schultz, Nagy has lost the locker room, and an overwhelming number of Bears players want him fired.
Nagy is currently 31-27 in four seasons as the Bears coach. But Chicago is 3-7 this season. His mismanagement of rookie quarterback Justin Fields has been a weekly conversation for local and national sports talk.
A loss on Thanksgiving to the winless Detroit Lions, could force the hands of the Bears front office to make a decision mid-season.
3. LeBron James suspended for flagrant elbow
Los Angeles Lakers star and the face of the NBA LeBron James received a one-game suspension for his flagrant elbow to the face of Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart. Meanwhile Stewart received a two-game suspension for “escalating an on-court altercation by repeatedly and aggressively pursuing” James in the aftermath.
The league had to suspend James and his suspension was well-deserved. But, Stewart getting a game more in suspension makes a lot of sense.
Had Stewart approached James immediately after getting up from the elbow, he actually might not have even been suspended. Yet, Stewart escalated the situation by backing off then coming back at James, bowling through coaches, teammates and arena staff in the process.
4. Taysom Hill gets breakthrough contract
The New Orleans Saints signed Taysom Hill to a hybrid four-year extension that will pay the utility player anywhere from $40 to 95 million, depending on what position he plays.
Hill, who played quarterback in college at BYU, has been a Swiss Army knife for the Saints. He’s played quarterback, running back, tight end and special teams. If he develops into the starting quarterback he could earn up to the max of $95 million over the four years.
Hill has long been viewed as a potential option to follow Saints legend Drew Brees, who retired at the end of last season. However, Jamies Winston beat out Hill for the starting quarterback at the start of this season.
Winston tore his ACL on Halloween against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, Hill was out with a concussion that he suffered two games earlier. Trevor Siemen has started at QB for the Saints the last three games. So it will be interesting as the season progresses where Hill fits and beyond.
