Just as they prepare to host the Anaheim Ducks Monday night, the Washington Capitals are facing another challenge. Forward Garnet Hathaway was placed in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol, becoming the third Washington player currently on the list.
Hathaway joins Nic Dowd and Trevor van Riemsdyk for Capitals players out due to coronavirus protocols.
The Capitals infections have trickled in since their Nov. 28 meeting against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes announced two players were entered into COVID protocol the following day after the game.
Washington has already had one player miss time due to COVID-19. Forward Lars Eller was placed in protocol last month while the team was in Anaheim. Eller missed two weeks before returning in that Hurricanes game.
Surely, the Capitals are crossing their fingers that the spread of players taken out will stop at three.
