Dontay Demus Jr. announces he is returning to Maryland next season

Maryland wide receiver Dontay Demus Jr. is a man of his word. As he was being carted off Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, Demus emphatically yell, “I’m coming back!”

On Thursday, a day after early national signing day, the Washington, DC native announced on social media, he is returning to Maryland using the same words.

Demus roared to 507 receiving yards and three touchdowns in five games before he suffered a season-ending knee injury on a kickoff return against Iowa.

Demus arrived to Maryland in 2018 out of DC powerhouse Friendship Collegiate Academy. He emerged as a reliable receiving option as a sophomore in 2019 with 625 yards and six touchdowns.

The following two seasons, he established himself as quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s favorite target.

Demus exploded to a great start in the 2021 season prior to his devastating injury. He was establishing his draft value by rising up draft boards. Unfortunately, his knee was awkwardly bent on a tackle during a kickoff against Iowa, ending his season.

Instead of facing uncertainty by declaring for the draft, Demus will get to re-establish his draft stock. He’ll get to demonstrate his impact healthy.
