To say Curtis Samuel’s first year with the Washington Football Team has been disappointing is an understatement. On Monday, Washington ruled out the wide receiver, along with running back JD McKissic, for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
For Samuel it will be his ninth game missed this season. The first eight missed games were related to a groin injury that required core muscle surgery in June. He’ll miss Tuesday’s game with a new injury dealing with his hamstring.
Samuel did not practice at all during the week. Not even the two-day postponement did him any good. According to Washington head coach Ron Rivera, Samuel reported soreness in his hamstring after last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
He arrived in Washington this year with high expectations. He signed a three-year, $34.5 million deal in March. He reunited with his former head coach in Carolina, Ron Rivera.
Samuel also got a chance to get back in the offensive system he played his first three years in Carolina.
Unfortunately his groin injury lingered. He was forced to miss OTAs, much of training camp and all three preseason games. He started the regular season with a three-game stint on injured reserve.
Since then he has played in short stretches. His first stretch lasted two games before he had a setback with his groin that kept him out of the next five games. He returned in Week 12, playing in the last three games on a snap count. He hasn’t garnered more than two targets in either game.
In year one, Curtis Samuel is set to collect close to $13.4 million through base pay and signing guarantees. Yet, he’s produced a mere six catches for 27 yards through 14 games.
