Military Bowl canceled due to Boston College COVID-19 issues

Monday’s Military Bowl between Boston College and East Carolina has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Boston College program, according to multiple reports. Stephen Igoe of 247Sports was the first to report news of the cancellation.

Boston College had 42 players impacted by COVID-19, season-ending injuries, opt-outs or the transfer portal, according to college football insider Bruce Feldman. The Eagles did not feel comfortable with it’s depth chart.

The game was slated to be played at the Naval Academy’s Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. This is the second consecutive year the bowl game will be canceled due to COVID-19.

The Military Bowl has been played throughout the Washington, DC area since 2008. The first five games were played at old RFK Stadium in DC before moving to Navy in 2013.

The Military Bowl is one of three bowl games canceled this year thus far due to COVID-19 issues. The Hawaii and Fenway Bowls were also canceled.

Coincidentally, all three canceled games involved teams from the American Athletic Conference (East Carolina, Tulsa and SMU). In all three cases the opposing team had COVID-19 issues (Boston College, Hawai’i, and Virginia).
