The highlights were few and far between for the Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team on Thursday against the Illinois Fighting Illini. However one of them was a big one and Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn was the victim.
Maryland freshman forward Julian Reese put Cockburn on a poster in a ferocious way.
Reese hung on the rim all over the 7-foot Cockburn. Reese was fortunate not to draw a technical foul. Even his Maryland teammate Eric Ayla had a word or two at Reese for the animated reaction to the dunk.
Unfortunately for Maryland the rest of the game was all Cockburn. Cockburn exact his revenge by dominating the game, scoring a game-high 23 points and 18 rebounds. His presence was too much for Maryland to handle.
Both Reese and starting center Qudus Wahab each foul out in the process. Illinois went on to win 76-64.
Illinois improved to 3-0 in Big Ten Conference play. Maryland fell to 0-3 in conference play.
