ESPN SportsCenter late-night anchor Scott Van Pelt missed Monday’s show following the National Championship Game following a “medical scare.”
The Montgomery County, Maryland native took to Twitter during Georgia’s 33-18 win over Alabama explaining why he would be absent from the show.
“Bummed to miss one of my favorite shows of the year, but happy to be ok and home after a bit of a medical scare this afternoon,” Van Pelt said on Twitter. “Thanks to @SuburbanHosp@CJPVFD for looking after me. Heart got a little out of whack, (SVT) which was pretty spooky, but fine now.”
Van Pelt suffered an arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) called SVT or supraventricular tachycardia.
Van Pelt, 55, has been with ESPN since 2001. In 2015, he was named solo anchor of the late-night SportsCenter. The show moved to Washington, DC in 2020 from ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.
It’s unclear if he will miss any additional shows following the heart episode. For now is safe and resting at home.
