It took 12 tries, but the Washington Capitals finally got their first overtime win of the season. Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov knifed through to split two Winning Jets. Kuznetsov wrapped around the net before slipping the puck to awaiting Tom Wilson.
Wilson then beat Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to deposit the puck in the net to give the Caps a 4-3 overtime win.
The NHL twitter reacted to the nifty move by Kutznetsov that setup Wilson’s game-winner:
The Capitals previously had four of their 11 overtime games end in a loss playing 3-3. They also had lost the other seven games in a shootout.
Washington rallied from a 2-0 first period deficit. Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin also scored his 757th career goal.
The win snapped their three-game home losing streak. Washington is now 22-9-9 with 53 points on the season. Winnipeg falls to 17-12-6 with 40 points.
