A female Washington Capitals fan was hit with a flying puck in Monday’s game between the Caps and Vegas Golden Knights. The incident caused the game to momentarily be delayed in the second period as the woman received medical attention, according to Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press.
With the Capitals on a power play, Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb flipped the puck over the glass into the stands striking the woman. The puck flip drew a two-minute minor for a delay of game. The call on McNabb gave the Capitals a two-man advantage.
The fan was helped up the stairs with a towel to her head. She was able to walk under her own power.
She received treatment at the Capital One Arena. Then she was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury, according to Darren M. Haynes of WUSA-9.
Below is a video of the incident:
During the delay, referee Wes McCauley checked to see if arena officials had a second ambulance on site. Officials reassured McCauley there was indeed a second ambulance. Otherwise, the game would have had to be stopped.
Vegas down the Capitals 1-0 in a rematch of the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner stopped 34 shots on goal he faced.
