Report: Commanders not on wish list of Aaron Rodgers

The two-time reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is set to let the Green Bay Packers know his decision into his future soon, according to ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini.

“There are multiple teams with offers on the table” Russini added in her report Thursday.

On Friday while speaking to Team 980’s Kevin Sheehan, Russini elaborated that the Washington Commanders are not one of the teams in the Rodgers sweepstakes. Why? Because the four-time MVP doesn’t want to play with the Commanders.

If Rodgers requests a trade, it will not be the case of who has the best haul to land him. He doesn’t have a no-trade clause like Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. However, the Packers will work with Rodgers to send him to his preferred destination from what Russini gathered.

“He’s gonna request a trade, if this is what he decides to do, and then he has teams that he wants to go to,” Russini said. “And from what I’ve learned — and I know of those teams — and the Commanders are not [among] them. So long story short, he does not want to play in Washington.”

Rodgers’ situation will be similar to what Matthew Stafford had when the Detroit Lions granted his wish to trade him last year.

Then, the Commanders were in the running. Washington felt they had a competitive offer that reportedly included a defensive starter as well as a first-round draft pick. However, Stafford preferred to go to the Los Angeles Rams to join Sean McVay.

Stafford ultimately steered the trade negotiations away from other teams such as the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers to land with the Rams.

Meanwhile, the Packers are doing everything they can to convince Rodgers Green Bay is the best situation for him. They are aligning their coaching staff and preparing to build its roster to appease Rodgers.

Among the many items the Packers are prepared to cross off Rodgers’ wish list, is paying him $50 million per year. Russini said Rodgers wants to be the highest-paid player in the NFL.

It’s unclear why Rodgers doesn’t want to come to Washington to play for the Commanders. Commanders head coach said earlier this week he believes the team has “a lot to offer” viable quarterback options. For whatever, it’s not enough for Rodgers.
