Sugar Bowl injury will keep QB Matt Corral from throwing at Combine

The NFL Scouting Combine is set for this week in Indianapolis. Quarterback prospects will throw on Thursday. However, one top prospect won’t be throwing alongside his draft classmates.

Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral won’t be throwing at the Combine, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Corral is still working his way back after suffering a high ankle sprain during the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Pelissero notes Corral wanted to throw, but his recovery timetable has been six-to-eight weeks. Corral is ahead of schedule but not in time to get ready for workouts at the Combine.

Corral is widely considered one of the top-three quarterbacks prospects along with Malik Willis of Liberty and Kenny Pickett of Pittsburgh.

Mock draft projections have a wide range for where the top quarterbacks will land. Some don’t have a quarterback selected in the top-10. The Washington Commanders, who are surely in the market for quarterback this offseason, currently hold the 11th pick overall.

Willis and Nevada quarterback Carson Strong are notable quarterbacks who will throw at the Combine, per Ian Rapoport.

Corral resumed light throwing two weeks ago. He is expected to participate at Ole Miss’s Por Day on March 23.
